TERMS AND CONDITIONS 2020

The Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) hosts three International Competitions: feature films, tv series and immersive works; the European Script Award competition (tv series) and seven out of competition sections.

The call for entry for the next edition of the GIFF, which will take place from November 6 to 15, 2020, concerns only the digital and immersive works (see below).

There is no call for submission for short and feature films, tv series, web series and music videos, which are spotted and pre-selected directly by the Festival’s programmers.

Need a registration on our platform:

  • the submitted digital and immersive works (see below)
  • the submitted tv series for the European Script Award
  • the works selected by the GIFF’s programming team (feature films, tv series, music videos, XR works, digital projects and web formats) after receiving the official selection letter from the Festival.

The short films program, which is a non competitive section, is delegate to Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur since 2018 and will be screened at GIFF.

Call for European Projects – XR Coproduction Sessions

The Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) launches a call for projects for the XR Coproduction Sessions. The event will take place during the Geneva Digital Market (GDM) – GIFF’s professional – from November 9-13, 2020.

Launched in 2019, this program aims to highlight the most innovative initiatives and to foster the international coproduction of immersive works between the selected participants, coproducing companies and innovation and technology start-ups invited for the occasion.

The call is open to producers, creators and filmmakers active in Switzerland and/or Europe in the field of virtual, augmented or mixed reality.

The XR Coproduction Sessions will be held over one day divided in two parts: the morning will be dedicated to the presentation of the projects in front of an audience of audiovisual industry professionals, while one-on-one meetings will take place in the afternoon.

To submit your project, please follow these steps:

  • Create an account on our platform MyGIFF
  • Select “Application Form” and click on “XR Coproduction”
  • Deadline for registration: August 28, 2020

  APPLICATION CRITERIA

Please note that only projects with all the following criteria will be considered:

  • Being a Swiss or European based professionnal/creator
  • Having a Producer and a financing plan in place
  • Having an European potential

  This call for projects is open to all XR projects, in development, in preproduction, in production or postproduction. Finished and broadcasted projects are not eligible. Any genre (documentary, fiction, animation, experimental) is accepted, except projects designed to promote a service or product.


CALL FOR IMMERSIVE WORKS (VR, AR, MR)

Since 2014, the GIFF has presented a program of immersive works with a competitive section since 2016, which includes projects in Swiss, International or World premiere.

Creators, producers and distributors are invited to submit their immersive works (virtual, augmented and mixed reality) for GIFF’s upcoming edition. The submitted works will be considered by Festival’s curators who will select those that will feature in GIFF’s 26th program (6-15 Nov. 2020).

The works will be eligible for the International Immersive Works Competition with a prize worth CHF10,000 offered by the City and the State of Geneva and handed out by a jury consisting of international experts, as well as the Festival’s converging sections (out-of-competition).

This year the GIFF is aiming to showcase augmented reality (AR) in particular and will thus focus more specifically on works that lend themselves to this format.

Submission for immersive works are now open. Deadline: August 28, 2020.
