The call for entries, for the 2019 edition of the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF), concerns only the International Immersive Works Competition.

There is no call for submission for feature films, TV series, music videos, web series, and other web formats, which are identified and preselected directly by the Festival programmers. The music videos, web series and short films are now part of the out-of-competition sections of the Festival.

The short films program, which is a non competitive section, is now delegated to Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Switzerland’s most significant short film festival. To submit a short film, please find here more info. GIFF curates the VR films program for the Kurzfilmtage. Both selections will be screened in Geneva and Winterthur in November 2019.

The Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) is opening its call for submission for its International Immersive Works Competition (VR, AR, MR).

Since 2014, the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) has presented a program of international VR works. Since 2016, this program includes a competitive section with ten immersive works (virtual, augmented or mixed reality) that are selected, then presented to a specialized Jury of directors, digital creators, and producers from all over the world. The Immersive Jury awards a Reflet d’Or to the best immersive work, worth CHF 10’000 donated by the City of Geneva.

Submission for immersive works (International Competition) are open until 20 August 2019.

To submit your work, please create an account on MyGIFF online platform. Choose “Registration Form”, then “Register an immersive work”.

We are looking for immersive works (VR, AR, MR) from any country.

– works must have already been shown or will be shown/broadcast in 2018-2019.

– works need a Swiss premiere status in festivals to be part of the international competition. Works entered cannot have been shown in events/festivals in Switzerland before 11 November 2019.

All genre are welcome – documentary, fiction, cinema, animation, and installation – as long as the work has its own narrative dimension and an interactive, linear or immersive aspect. Coherence and pertinence between the content, the storytelling, and the experience are the deciding factors in the selection process.

For any question, please contact Paola Gazzani Marinelli, Head of Digital & Professional Programs.

Closing date for registration: 20 August 2019.

Selection is not open, except for the immersive works such as VR, AR or MR (see above).

Only selected works (feature films, short films, TV series, music videos, VR/AR/MR works, digital works and web formats) can be registered on our platform, after receiving the official selection letter from the Festival.
