While virtual reality centers that offer entertaining and playful content are multiplying, the monetization, distribution and broadcasting strategies of immersive works remains a problem. This roundtable discussion addresses the economic prospects of location-based VR, which invites the public to discover and share immersive works in designated places. Will location-based become a major element in VR? How will it help consolidate this ecosystem?

Antoine Cayrol is the co-founder of Atlas V, a company that specialises in the development, production and distribution of virtual, augmented and mixed reality works. Some of their award-winning projects are Gloomy Eyes (Annecy Cristal 2019), Spheres (Venice International Film Festival Grand Prize 2018) and Vestige (Peabody Award 2019). Antoine Cayrol has produced further ground-breaking XR works with his previous companies, Okio Studio and Fatcat Films.

Ellen Kuo, Funique VR
Funique VR, a leading 8K stereoscopic 360 VR content creator, has developed numerous exclusive technologies and creates the most advanced immersive experiences. It focuses on 8K per eye stereoscopic VR content for the industry and aims to create a new generation platform for viewers. Ellen Kuo joined Funique VR in 2018 where she carries out international co-production projects.

Leen Segers, LucidWeb
Leen Segers is a Brussels-based spatial computing expert. Before becoming an entrepreneur, she worked for 10 years with several technology start-ups in Ghent, London, and Brussels. Since 2011, she has been focusing on the democratization of media across platforms and devices, leading her to found LucidWeb in 2016. Today LucidWeb works with many broadcasters, including ARTE (FR), RTE (IE), VRT (BE) and VR/AR agencies across Europe. Recently the company also launched a white-label app-less distribution platform LucidWeb.pro. Leen is the co-founder of Women in Immersive Tech Europe, a non-profit organization with a mission to create an inclusive network of talented women from all over Europe who define the continent’s virtual, augmented and mixed reality sector.
