FAQs / PRACTICAL INFORMATION :

The following special measures for COVID-19 are intended to protect festivalgoers, staff, volunteers, service providers, festival guests and artists.

Welcome to our FAQs relating to this year’s special measures.

How can I participate in the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) ?

In order to ensure the protection of participants and to limit the transmission of COVID-19, GIFF has implemented a protection plan.

Reservations and ticket purchases can onlybe made online on our website giff.ch.

The collection of your contact information is mandatory. It is done via our online ticketing system at the time of purchase. By finalizing your purchase, participants accept that the Festival may communicate their personal data if a case of COVID-19 occurs during an event where they were present. Under no circumstances will the data be used for commercial purposes. It will be kept confidential and destroyed after 14 days.

When exchanging or purchasing tickets for a third party, it is imperative that the purchaser inform the person who used the ticket if there are any reported cases of infection.

All sessions are subject to reservation, including free programs.

What health measures have you put in place?

Wearing a mask is mandatory in all festival venues.

The Nuits Blanches events are cancelled and all bars and restaurants closed.

This year GIFF has ensured a system that welcomes the public in the best possible way.

Health measures have been put in place so that festivalgoers may enjoy the various programs calmly and safely by:

  • Setting up waiting areas and ensuring the direction of circulation to avoid cross-flows and public gatherings in confined spaces.
  • Regularly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects that are handled by multiple people.

Please note that this information is subject to change according to changes in health requirements. Please visit this page or our social networks regularly to stay informed.

What health measures do I have to comply with?

We ask that GIFF visitors:

  • Wear a mask in all the Festival’s venues(including in queues, movie theaters and all “Virtual Territories” venues)
  • Respect social distancing measures, wash or disinfect hands as regularly as possible.
  • Maintain a distance of one seat between each visitor or group of people.
  • Communicate authentic personal data when participating in the event so that it may be communicated to the health authorities if a case of COVID-19 occurs.
  • Refrain from attending the event in case of symptoms or doubts about their health (more details on the FOPH website: https://bit.ly/2Dgm8DS).
  • Report to GIFF any cases of symptoms appearing or positive screenings made shortly after attending the event.

What are the venues for the 2020 event?

This year GIFF will take over the following venues: the Arditi Foundation Auditorium, Cinélux, Cinérama Empire, the Maison des Arts du Grütli (GIFF Information Office, Function:cinema, Les Salons, the Maison communale de Plainpalais (Pitoëff Theater), Pavillon Sicli, Cinema Le Plaza and the Saint-Gervais theater.

Do children also have to register?

Children are required to comply with the same measures as adults, except that masks are only mandatory for children over 12 years old.

We recommend a minimum age of 8 for screenings. Below this age, we do not recommend bringing children to the Festival’s various venues.

Will there be a food and beverage area?

In order to limit the transmission chains of COVID-19, the bar and snack bar area is closed.

I booked a seat for a session but I will not be able to attend. What can I do?

When exchanging or purchasing tickets for a third party, it is imperative that the purchaser inform the person who used the ticket should any cases of infection have been reported.

Please note that tickets are neither refunded nor exchanged.

I registered but did not show up. Will I be quarantined if a case of COVID-19 occurs at the festival?

You will not have to quarantine. If you have given your ticket to a third party, it is your responsibility to inform them so that they are aware of the applicable procedures.
