“This Brazil is mine too! I was born here!” In a dystopian future, the Brazilian government decrees via a “Ministry of Return” that its black citizens must leave for Africa. A voluntary return, a one-way ticket, a kind of self-deportation that is strongly “encouraged” and then violently enforced. Somewhere between Orwell and Huxley, this sci-fi film echoes the grave political climate, both socially and culturally, that the country is experiencing today.
