Two scriptwriters decide to write a story based on a news item and ask the protagonist of the story to help them in their undertaking. But the young woman is in passive revolt against a society that is dehumanizing itself.

To tell this story of two friends who decide to write a screenplay based on a news item and ask the protagonist to help them, Alain Tanner, as usual, films Geneva as an impersonal setting. What interests him above all is how people free themselves from their environment. The libertarian idleness of the heroine (Bulle Ogier) becomes the flag-bearer of the May 1968's disappointed generation.
