Everyone's familiar with reality TV shows – some more scripted than others – featuring heated conflicts between neighbours. From Neighbours at War (NZ) to Petits secrets entre voisins (FR), this successful formula feeds some perverse pleasure in viewers that comes from watching petty, high-drama disputes. The first narrative series to make use of deepfake technology – which is impressive and controversial in equal measure – Deep Fake Neighbour Wars takes weird to the next level by replacing impressionists' faces with those of Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Usain Bolt, as they complain about their garden plot, argue over stolen underwear or fight about a trashed patio. No mercy for celebrities, celebrities “non merci”.
