Deep in the Romandy countryside, young Gustave buries his mother under the disapproving gaze of the other villagers. A fervently poetic TV film in which all is not as it seems.

Gustave is a young, idealistic and sensitive man, recently orphaned. He is taken under the wing of Pierre (Jean-Luc Bideau), the village doctor and boyfriend of Rose, a waitress at the local bistro. Despite the gossip, decrying his idleness, that swirls about Gustave, the couple continue to look out for him. But an appalling crime suddenly provokes rage amongst the villagers. Like Alain Tanner's La Salamandre, released a decade earlier, this TV film from Yvan Butler pours scorn on the apparent peacefulness of the Swiss countryside and its romantic veneer. In peeling back the idyllic facade of this charming village, the Genevan director reveals its fangs... A tale of stunning realism that lays to rest the clichés of the sentimental drama and the benign decency of Switzerland.
