Like the rest of his filmography, this dark, political film portrays a Russia weakened by inequality, corruption and power struggles. At the core of this social thriller remains the hope of a virtuous communication between classes. Having grown up in a working-class environment, the filmmaker finds in the art of film a space in which to bear witness to his reality, while involving those who discover his work to question and challenge the established system; to find its fault and its limit.
