Renuka, a reckless prostitute on the run, falls in love with young Devika, with whom she tries to break free from the shackles dictated by Indian society. A shock that's as fiery as it is moving.
Konstantin Bojanov's narrative ambition is to tell the story of a relentless quest for freedom against a backdrop of impossible love, hampered by a masculine society in which women's bodies are mere commodities. A graduate of Sofia's National School of Fine Arts, the Bulgarian director and screenwriter draws on his experience to magnify a stunning plunge into a cruel world that the love of two souls chained to their condition could well shake. An outpouring of raw, contradictory emotions, made possible by an incandescent duo of actresses, Omara Shetty and Anasuya Sengupta. The latter's performance was rewarded with the Best Actress Award at Un Certain Regard 2024.
