Let the Marquis de Custine guide you through the maze of the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg. In this former residence of the Tsars, dazzling ghosts whisper the history of all the Russias...
Because of its sensational use of the cinematic strategy of one take, Russian Ark was a pivotal work for Sarah Kenderdine and her team. As a “one shot” – four attempts were necessary – transcending the endless editor’s cut, this masterpiece shot at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg brilliantly conveys the drama of the live eye and the emergent narrative; an unedited version thus privileging the camera's viewpoint, not the editors. This roving eyewitness is very similar to that of the participants in interactive immersive systems.
