The bewitching portrait of Parthenope, a sublime anthropology student who strolls the streets of Naples, a veritable object of fascination for every one of its inhabitants. A hymn to beauty.
In love with his native Naples, Paolo Sorrentino dedicates another passionate work to his city, this time in a more metaphorical vein. Parthenope – both the original name given to the city by the Greeks and that of a mermaid who is said to have washed up there – takes on the features of a young student in the 1950s, a true embodiment of the city's beauty and soul. Using his framing skills to sublimate his paradisiacal settings while reflecting on the volatility of youth, the Neapolitan director pursues his artistic gesture in an enchanting way, revealing Celeste Dalla Porta, the first actress to play the lead role in one of Sorrentino's feature films.
