An electrifying spin-off of the eponymous 2018 film, Blindspotting follows the day-to-day life of Ashley, a black woman living in Oakland, after her son’s father is taken into custody. She goes to live with her mother-in-law, an ageing hippie, whom Helen Hunt infuses with a wild energy. Evoking the difficulties of everyday life, endemic racism, but also love and joy, this ambitious and lyrical series seamlessly shifts from musical to social drama.
