Mengtai spent his teenage years in a Chinese rehabilitation camp for internet addicts. Now exiled, he immerses us in this prison-like world in order to deconstruct the social control mechanisms that underpin it.
In a bid to escape his parents' stormy relationship, young Mengtai seeks refuge online. Exasperated at watching their son retreat from the world, they send him to a rehabilitation camp for young addicts. Now exiled from his country of origin, the artist immerses us in his memories of this prison-like world run by the Chinese army. He questions its function and foundations – supposedly based on internationally-recognized diagnosis of computer addiction – the proven effectiveness of which has more in common with social control methods.
