The Geneva International Film Festival – GIFF and Genève Aéroport are teaming up to offer travelers a complete immersion in Switzerland’s landscapes, traditions, and heritage. Through a 360° film shot in the 1980’s, presented courtesy of the Cinémathèque suisse in the East Wing of Genève Aéroport in a virtual reality version, this experience invites the public to rediscover Switzerland from a unique perspective. Thanks to immersive technology, viewers are transported on a sensory journey through iconic landscapes and scenes that capture an era, its customs, and its traditions. Blending cinematic discovery with a virtual reality experience, this work creates a dialogue between audiovisual heritage and technological innovation, offering a new way to view and experience Swiss traditions. Restless lakes, modern factories, the Tschäggättä on a jaunt, mountaineers in full ascent, cows roaming the alpine pastures, tranquil ruins in the countryside… Nothing seems able to escape the wide lens of the Swissorama recording and projection system developed by avant-garde pioneer Ernst Heiniger in the early 1980s. A self-taught Disney director, Impressions de la Suisse is a dizzyingly moving portrait of old Helvetia, with its varied and sometimes little-known facets. This is an opportunity to (re)discover this legendary documentary, shown continuously at the Swiss Museum of Transport from 1984 to 2002.
