INTOXICATED INTERVIEW

VO. French
With
Francis Bacon, Emile de Harven
Director Pierre Koralnik steals from the famous painter small answers to immense questions about his work, his life and his inspirations. An artist's portrait through the fumes of alcohol.

In his studio at 7 Reece Mews, South Kensington, London, artist Francis Bacon, with a smile on his lips and a fever in his body, is passionately questioned by Pierre Koralnik, then a young film director at TSR. Produced for the program Continents sans visa, this short film immortalizes a particular moment in the artist's career, as he prepares to produce his first triptych, a painting format that would become very dear to him. Inspired by Picasso, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Velasquez and Buñuel, his painting is a painting of flesh and sensations, blood-and-gold colored. His eyes misted with alcohol, twirling among the sketches, Francis Bacon mischievously replies “[w]hat's ‘vultures’ en français?”
