THE FATHER X THE TWILIGHT ZONE

With the support of the Québec Government Office to Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

As Christmas approaches, a young man in his thirties visits his father, hoping to tell him everything that is on his mind. This is the second short film in Quebec director Jean-Marc Vallée's trilogy on father-son relationships.

After Les Fleurs magiques, Jean-Marc Vallée continues his exploration of alcoholism and father-son relationships with this haunting short film. A young man visits his father as Christmas approaches to express everything he has never been able to say to him: his childhood suffering caused by the lack of consideration, love, and communication from an alcoholic and violent father. But as he prepares to open his heart, his imagination suddenly overwhelms him with thoughts, fantasies, and even inner nightmares, making it impossible to find those magic words... Adopting a cyclical narrative structure, which presents multiple versions fantasized by the protagonist of the confession scene, the filmmaker explores with finesse and sensitivity the difficulties of communication between a son and his father.
