The lifeless body of a young woman is discovered on the estate of Johan, a modest Dutch reed cutter, whose daily life is turned upside down by this terrible incident. A climate of suspicion soon grips the region as Johan persists in uncovering the culprit. This is Sven Bresser's visually stunning debut feature, in which the beauty and ruggedness of nature become the backdrop for a paranoid tale of profound ambiguity, bordering on the fantastic. A true reed cutter off-screen, Gerrit Knobbe impresses with his magnetism in a leading role marked by ambivalence. A haunting thriller whose aesthetics are matched only by the darkness of its narrative.
