Using precise, faithful reproductions of Paul Klee’s puppets, the fourth episode in the Hors-Cadre virtual reality series sets out to discover the famous painter and his many facets.
In this short film, the puppets themselves recount the major events and important aspects of their creator’s life. Straddling the line between comic fiction and documentary, the story focuses on Paul Klee’s family life, his teachings and his escape to Switzerland from the Nazi regime.
SWITZERLAND FROM EVERY ANGLE

Movement : 3 degrees of freedom

A restoration and virtual reality evocation produced by the Cinémathèque suisse, with the support of Memoriav.
Restless lakes, modern factories, the Tschäggättä on a jaunt, mountaineers in full ascent, cows roaming the alpine pastures, tranquil ruins in the countryside… Nothing seems able to escape the wide lens of the Swissorama recording and projection system developed by avant-garde pioneer Ernst Heiniger in the early 1980s. A self-taught Disney director, Impressions de la Suisse is a dizzyingly moving portrait of old Helvetia, with its varied and sometimes little-known facets. This is an opportunity to (re)discover this legendary documentary, shown continuously at the Swiss Museum of Transport from 1984 to 2002.
BATTLEFIELD
FRANÇOIS VAUTIER | 2024 | FR, LU, BE | VR | FR, ST. EN
Duration : 22 minutes
Movement : 3 degrees of freedom
Interaction : no
Viewing position : sitting
Minimum age : 14
Language : FR

For his fourth immersive creation, François Vautier returns to the fundamentals of virtual reality with this film made in real-life conditions. A 360° film in the heart of the trenches of the First World War, in search of a shred of humanity at a time when soldiers must go to the front. With its monumental production and life-size set, Battlefield demonstrates the power of images when confronted with an immersive story. François Vautier bathes his story in a dark, melancholy atmosphere, returning to what he does best: a visceral proposition, bordering on the unreal, that makes this war story a timeless portrait of Man facing History.
