GIFF UNLIMITED @ZURICH

GIFF PARTNERS WITH VEREIN 360° AROUND THE SWISSORAMA SYSTEM

As part of the contextualization project led by Verein 360° focused on the Swissorama 360° projection system, designed by Swiss filmmaker Ernst A. Heiniger (1905–1993), the GIFF is expanding to the German-speaking part of Switzerland to make the virtual reality version of the work Impressions de la Suisse accessible to the public.

This presentation will allow the Swiss German public to (re)discover this pioneering work in an immersive format, while also exploring the history and significance of the Swissorama in the development of 360° audiovisual experiences. The work will be presented as part of a series of events in Zurich, Lucerne, and Frauenfeld between September 2026 and November 2027, with the courtesy of the Cinémathèque suisse. The first event will take place at loop space in Zurich, a cultural experimentation space that will host the exhibition “Rund um Bild” this fall, dedicated to various forms of immersive imagery.

SWITZERLAND FROM EVERY ANGLE | ERNST ALBRECHT HEINIGER | 1984 | CH | VR | Nodialogue

A restoration and virtual realityevocationproduced by the Cinémathèquesuisse, with the support of Memoriav.

Restless lakes, modern factories, the Tschäggättä on a jaunt, mountaineers in full ascent, cows roaming the alpine pastures, tranquil ruins in the countryside… Nothing seems able to escape the wide lens of the Swissorama recording and projection system developed by avant-garde pioneer Ernst Heiniger in the early 1980s. A self-taught Disney directorImpressions de la Suisse is a dizzyingly moving portrait of old Helvetia, with its varied and sometimes little-known facets. This is an opportunity to (re)discover this legendary documentary, shown continuously at the Swiss Museum of Transport from 1984 to 2002.
