MEDIATION – GIFF 2021

MEDIATION

THE GIFF’S SCHOOLCLASSES

Each year, the GIFF offers workshops in classrooms and programmatic initiatives in favor of image education or digital creation awareness. The Festival thus proposes to broaden our perspectives thanks to digital technology, while providing adequate tools to exercise a critical and constructive look at the media. During these last editions, the GIFF school groups have proposed thematic workshops in class, visits to the immersive installation park “Virtual Territories” or school screenings.

Classroom workshops: Mixed realities in the service of creation

Target audience: from 12 years old
Objective: to broaden the knowledge of this new technology and discover its essential contribution to the conception of artistic works

Is it possible to reconcile technology and artistic creativity? Can we create poetic works thanks to augmented reality? It is to these questions that the company Adrien M & Claire B wishes to answer. Their cultural mediator, Johanna Guerreiro, went to the classrooms to present immersive works that the students were able to experience. The goal was to understand the impact of these new technologies in the current creative processes, but also its role in the social spheres. It was a question of discovering how mixed, virtual and augmented realities are now imposing themselves as a new medium.

Virtual Territories Visits

Target audience: from 12 years old
Objective: to experiment with digital works intended to renew our view of cinema and new technologies

New mixed reality technologies are constantly evolving with each edition of the Festival. Each year, the GIFF offers students the opportunity to discover completely new virtual reality films or augmented reality installations!

GIFF 2021

School or public screenings of a feature film from the official selection, followed by a meeting with the director

Target audience: from 14 years old
Objective: to introduce students to the analysis of a film by providing adequate tools to exercise a critical and constructive look at the audiovisual narrative

The GIFF organizes screenings open to the school public in the presence of directors, actors and/or other specialized speakers. These screenings allow students to discuss with the film’s protagonists about the actor’s profession, to discuss the analysis of sequences or to express their experience during the screening.

Workshops: introduction to film criticism

Target audience: from 14 years old
Objective: introduction to film criticism

Under the guidance of Stéphane Gobbo, head of the cultural section of the newspaper Le Temps, students are introduced to the practice of film criticism. Before watching the film, the journalist gives the essential keys to take into account when writing a review, such as the direction, framing, acting and photography. The texts are then produced in class in small groups and submitted to a jury for selection. The best reviews are published on the websites of Le Temps and GIFF.
